Soma Silence

Description

Soma Silence is a multi-layer acoustic membrane designed to reduce impact noise in floating floors. It consists of a top layer of black non-woven polypropylene fabric, a middle glass-fibre mesh and a resilient bottom layer of white polyester felt, all bonded with a special bitumen compound. The membrane has a 5 cm overlap for joining.

It works on the mass–spring principle: the soft, resilient polyester felt separates the screed from the load-bearing floor slab and reduces the transmission of both impact and airborne noise. The bitumen top layer forms the mass that dampens sound; it is airtight and watertight and fills the pores through which noise would otherwise travel.

It also prevents cement laitance from seeping through when the screed is poured. Thanks to the combination of mass and resilience, it effectively dampens structure-borne noise, withstands mechanical stress during installation and resists tearing well on uneven substrates.

It is designed for floating floors as a resilient layer between the load-bearing floor slab and the screed, onto which any floor covering can be laid. The rolls are unrolled in their natural direction. The white polyester felt goes down, the black non-woven side up.
